maybe my shit got bugged?
i remember reading old king will spawn at depth 10 but mine did at 9

after beating it i continued a little bit

also after doing end G i opened the secret.rar thing and it did show that it had DLC 3 CGs so it should be okay

I did put the patch and hotfix though so maybe that messed it up?

So I have finished the game last week and I do have to say that it is the most interesting RPG Maker 18+ game that I have played to date. There's a lot of great RPG Maker games out there, whether it is 18+ or not, but this one takes the cake for the 18+ category.

But now there's this hollow feeling in me looking for another RPG Maker game that has a really well made story line and interesting journey. Sure, there's old gems like Ao Oni and Mad Father or for example in the E(?) rated range, but weirdly enough I feel like the 18+ part of it makes the story more whole and doesn't shy from the aspect of free story telling in general, in addition of a more free, and thus more interesting story telling even though I kinda skip over it after seeing it once.

I have been scouring around not just the past week, but for a long while for something that interest me in the 18+ genre, but most of the time the "not so well" crafted aspect of the story became a major turn off for me.

There's a lot of "Grand" RPG Maker 18+ game out there, example would be Princess & Conquest and My New Life: Revamp that just doesn't seem to caught my interest in the story department or execution, and there's also a lot of less grand titles that just doesn't hold the same level of amusement such as Nano-Control or Jikage Rising, even though all the game I have listed so far are all great games. Maybe I'm just being spoiled by Black Souls story, twists, mystery, and creativity?

Anyway, the closest to the game that I have found are games by Takamakuran that has similarity in their games, which is this messy-like art style and their kinda-depressing story. I enjoyed their games such as A New Game and The Mercenary's Adventure, but even their games aren't as polished and as interesting as EMMM's Black Souls series.

I think what makes me gravitate to Black Souls boils down to their mastery in story telling/creativity as well as their unique but discernable art style. I don't want another character from Illusion's character generator and a simple screenshot of it, nor do I want another harem based story that is very superficial and holds no substance or weight, or a RPG Maker game where the point is for you to just wank one out. I want something that surprises me or makes me think of what the author of the story is trying to portray or say, even if their point boils down to madness and insanity, because no matter how severe it is if it is there with a purpose and has a great execution and story, then it is a great story nonetheless. (Example of this would be the Berserk Manga)

With all that said, does anyone here have a recommendation that fulfills all the criteria that I am looking for? An RPG Maker game with great lengthy story and great execution on the same level as Black Souls? I'm starting to lose hope trying to find one. It doesn't have to be all depressed, it's just have to be well executed and full of love poured into the game and the story. I'm at the point where I'm thinking I should make one myself (as easy as that is to say, I know how hard it is to make a powerful game, hence the scarcity).

Appreciate all the help, suggestions and replies! Also tell me what do you think of the game; Am I just being over the top praising it or is it justified compared to its competitors?

Have you tried the Sequel series? Sequel Blight, Sequel Awake, Sequel Colony, Asylum, and hopefully soon Sequel Kludge (already released but not translated yet). The sequel games are much more linear in their story but you can tell there is a lot of work put into them. They are at least 30-40 hours for first playthrough each. They are all part of the same story so play them in that order I mentioned. The more of them you play, the more of the world you will understand.
Asylum is more of a spinoff and the gameplay shows, it's much more open with exploration and the combat is more punishing I guess is the way to put it. If you enjoy Asylum, there is also Liberty Step which is older but in a similar style like open exploration and is longer in length.
The story of the games are generally mild in tempo, not too upbeat but not really dark either. Although there is a bit of depressing atmosphere if you really consider the details of the story. Asylum could be the exception again with it just being a bit dark overall.
As a bonus, they are also all translated by the who goes to great pains to make sure terms are consistent between games. All the translations are available on his site there but you will have to find a original japanse copy yourself.

I also want to recommend the Repure Aria games as well as Rimuri Rimu as well. They are metroid like games with a focus on exploration. The controls are a little weird but if you really like exploring, then these games are great. The second Repure Aria game is not translated but those other two are.

Honestly, I can't think of many 18+ games that focus on the story mainly. IIRC even Black souls sexual content is only there because of DLsite requirements, though I think some of it really fits (like Mary Sue's chocking scene at the end of 1 and then in 2, Grimm gets choked by crawling one). Most of the games I have played are, like you said, basically glorified galleries. Although I do have some recommendations based purely on gameplay and not story. I usually enjoy games based on that. Even a terrible story will just make me roll my eyes and push through it but I can't suffer terrible gameplay.

Also tell me what do you think of the game; Am I just being over the top praising it or is it justified compared to its competitors?
Not at all, I think Black Souls definitely stands above the vast majority of the other games you could play out there. Especially among 18+, it is difficult to find something so well made, even more so considering it was mostly made by just one guy. Not that there are no other good games, just that there are a lot of low effort ones (glorified galleries once again). It takes a lot of motivation and dedication to reach the level Black Souls is at which is not something I think you can find easily when all you want is people to buy your art.

Uhh anyone else had problems with Break on Old King fight? It seems Break doesn't affect him at all while he's casting his oneshot bullshit attack. Does it have some hidden gimmick or it's just a bug?

From what I remember, it's not that he's immune to break when charging the oneshot. It's that the attack he does before the oneshot stuns you so you can't break the oneshot, and the stun attack is immune to break. So you need to do something to stop him from stunning you, and then you can use the break on the oneshot or something like that.

Yeah, before his oneshot attack he cast debuff that will set your agility to 1 so you won't get a turn to use Break on him. It can be dodged though, so it's not a problem.

Anyway, i did a bit of search and turns out that few other people here and on other forum have the same issue with Breaking on Old King fight. It's a rare bug that makes him immune to Break/Heavy Break/Gun Break, making him impossible to beat. I didn't found any fix for it, so i guess Old King will remain unbeatable for me.
